Tell yourself that you have a good life, count your blessings, and learn to stay positive no matter what.

Count your blessings at the end of every day – don’t focus on the problems you’ve faced that day; rather, think of all the good things that happened and the happiness they gave you.
Think of others rather than yourself – when you do things, even the smallest favors, for other people who mean something to you, you feel good about yourself.
Be proactive rather than reactive – instead of fretting over a problem and letting it stress you out, focus on how to resolve quickly and effectively. When your mind is busy trying to find a solution, you stop feeling sorry for yourself and start thinking positively.
Don’t allow your mind to remain idle – it may be clichéd, but it’s also true that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. So stay busy and keep doing something or the other to prevent negative thoughts from creeping in.
Get an hour of exercise every day – even a brisk walk in the morning or evening will do your mental health a world of good.

  Allow yourself some “me” time
 – set aside some time every day or every few days for yourself when you get to choose what you want to do; read a book, listen to music, catch up with friends, or just laze around. When your soul is nourished, you find that positive

energy flows.
Stop negative thoughts before they form completely – if you find yourself becoming depressed because your mind is taking a negative bent, stop those thoughts in their tracks and start consciously thinking of positive things.
Spend time with people who love you and make you feel good about yourself– quality relationships make life worth living.
Anytime you feel that the weight of your burden is hard to bear, talk to a friend or someone with a sympathetic ear – even if they cannot do anything to help you out, just the fact that you have someone on your side is uplifting enough.
And finally, look around you before you start to feel sorry for yourself – there are

people in situations that are a hundred times worse than yours, yet they manage to get through each day.
Tell yourself that you have a good life, count your blessings, and learn to stay positive no matter what.Mallorca

High good cholesterol linked to long life in men

CNews World NEW YORK: Men who reach their 85th birthdays tended to have high levels of good cholesterol while in their 60s, a new study says.

Researchers found that men with the highest good (HDL) cholesterol were 28 percent less likely to die before they reached 85, compared to men in the lowest HDL group.

This paper, published in the American Journal of Cardiology, adds to the evidence that HDL is important for a long life, said Dr. Nir Barzilai, who heads the Institute for Aging Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and was not part of the study.

However, “we always have to remember that it”s an association,” and it does not mean that having high HDL increases life span, he said.

About 12 million men suffered from heart disease and stroke in 2006, but high levels of HDL cholesterol may reduce the risks, according to the American Heart Association.

Low levels of HDL, less than 40 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) of blood for men, are known to increase the risk of heart disease, according to the heart association.

The researchers, from the Massachusetts Veterans Epidemiology and Research Information Center in Boston, looked at the medical records of about 650 veterans when they were around 65 years old, then grouped them based on HDL levels.

Starting with low levels of 40 mg/dL, they found that for each ten mg/dL increase of HDL, the men were 14 percent less likely to have died by 85. Overall, 375 survived to that age.

Also, fewer of the men with higher HDL were overweight, and they tended not to have more than 2 drinks a day. And fewer of them had heart disease or smoked, compared to the lowest HDL group.

These other factors might have had an effect on survival, Barzilai said. However, the researchers did account for this, and still showed a link between reaching 85 and high HDL levels, he said.

“It”s difficult to change HDL levels,” Barzilai said. Exercise might raise it a few points, but it isn”t a very efficient way to improve, he said. “We need to get a drug eventually.”

Merck and Roche are both working on an HDL raising drug, he said. Pfizer stopped its research into another such drug, torcetrapib, in 2006 because people taking it along with Lipitor in a study had a higher rate of death.

The B-vitamin niacin may raise HDL levels 15 to 35 percent. However, side effects can include liver damage and increased blood sugar, according to the Mayo Clinic.

A three-month supply costs about nine dollars. Niacin is also found in dairy products, lean meats, nuts, eggs and fish.

However, it”s unclear how much raising HDL will prevent heart disease, Barzilai said, so whether drugs might improve people”s health remains to be seen. (Reuters)

Optimize your Faith and Experience .

05/20/15

You must have faith and experience in order to live life fully.  You must have faith that all of the things you expect from life are possible for you.  You must have faith that no matter what life brings you, you will be able to handle it.  You must have faith that your faith will eventually lead to good experiences.
Experience teaches you that your faith is paying off.  Once you have had an experience, you know that you know.  When you know, you become more faithful.  Once you have an experience, it makes you want better or different experiences.  The difference between faith and experience is this:  One you must work on.  The other one works on you.
You must work to keep your faith alive.  When you are working on faith, it may feel as if you are going against the grain.  There may be no evidence that what you believe has any validity.  Still, you must move forward faithfully, until you have the experience that will lead you to knowing.  An experience leaves a mark on your consciousness.  An experience will guide your thoughts and your actions.  An experience can open your heart to new horizons or close your heart in fear.  In the midst of an experience, you must have faith that you will ultimately reap some benefit from what you now know to be true.
It is important to know what experiences to put your faith in.  If you have an
unpleasant experience, have faith that you will learn something new, useful or productive.  When you have a pleasant or productive experience, have faith that you can duplicate the experience and make it better.  Have faith that your mind and heart will always be open to bigger, better experiences than those you have already had.
Until today, you may not have realized that your faith and your experiences work hand in hand.  Just for today, use your faith to create better experiences.  Use your experiences to activate a deeper sense of faith.
